Shipping costs will be one of your major financial considerations when moving to Nova Scotia. Generally shipments will arrive at Halifax Port directly from the UK in around 3-5 weeks. Smaller shipments may arrive via other destinations and therefore take longer. Once in port your goods to follow will usually take a few days to clear customs. Customs require a 'goods to follow' list with a description of your goods and also the resale value in dollars. Forms can be downloaded here.
The importation of cars less than 15 years old (including kit cars) is not advised.

Our advice is to bring as many goods with you as possible from the UK. Houses tend to be bigger here and the cost of shipping normally outweighs buying most of your goods again.
Although electrical voltage is 110v rather than UK 240v, electrical items with lower wattages will work with a voltage converter. Smaller 45w step up converters can be purchased from Ebay.
